Meander down south through the coastal greenery of KwaZulu-Natal and, just before the Eastern Cape border, you will find Port Edward situated snugly between the muddy roil of the Mtamvuna River and the aquamarine Indian Ocean. This peaceful holiday village was named for the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII, and belatedly achieved town status in 1947.
The locals revel in being KwaZulu-Natal’s ‘last southern-most outpost’, and their lives very much revolve around the balmy ocean. This friendly town of Port Edward, however, hides many a secret, including great coffee estates, excellent restaurants, quaint arts and craft shops, adventure sport operators and, of course, the nearby Wild Coast Sun Casino.
