Pinetown

Pinetown is a small town that lies inland in the KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The town lies just 10 minutes from the city of Durban and lies within a valley rich in powdery red soil that makes the land fertile, with a diversity of rich plant life.

Pinetown is also home to the Mariannhill Monastery, founded in 1882 by Prior Franz Pfanner. The town was originally established in the mid 19th century around the Wayside Hotel, which lies directly on the wagon route between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. It was the unfortunate site of one of the British concentration camps during the Anglo Boer War.
