Oyster Bay is a pristine Eastern Cape coastal village situated about 22km south west of Humansdorp and 14km west of St Francis Bay. There are two small rivers that mouth into the Indian Ocean at Oyster Bay, the Slang River and the Klipdrift River.
Oyster Bay has long and wide beaches, with a rich diversity in bird, plant and animal life. The Oyster catcher is an important bird in the area. It was in danger of becoming extinct, but the ‘Oyster Catcher Project’ in Oyster Bay has lead to an increase in population. The Slang River and Klipdrift River boasts a wealth of bird life.
The area also has a variety in fish species, like mussel cracker, shad, kabeljou, galjoen, white steenbras, and pachimatoton grande. Accordingly, there are also excellent fishing spots in Oyster Bay. There are, however, restrictions that visitors need to take note of.
The community is very protective towards the beach and its surrounds, and therefore activities like 4x4 trips and motorcycles are controlled in beach areas. This also preserves the pristinity and natural diversity of the Oyster Bay area, giving it a beautiful and important characteristic.
