Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve boasts with a spectacular gorge below the Howick Falls and splendid valley views. The reserve is home to various wildlife, including zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and various antelope species. There are around 200 bird species as well, making it a bird enthusiast’s paradise. Tala Game Reserve is a wildlife conservancy with a plethora of scenic landscapes.

The biodiversity of the area is remarkable, with acacia thornveld, open grassland and sensitive wetland all found in the reserve. Game watching and birding are the most popular activities in the reserve.

Albert Falls Dam Nature Reserve is situated in the Karkloof hills near Pietermaritzburg and is well-known as a family-friendly resort. Game such as zebra and species of antelope call the reserve home. The Albert Falls Dam is great for various water sports and boating, fishing and rock climbing opportunities are abound.
