In the Eastern Cape, extending the Wild Coast, you will find Morgan Bay not far from the muddy roil of the Great Kei River. This village, situated alongside imposing dolerite sea cliffs and next to a tranquil lagoon, rates as a glorious family holiday destination in South Africa.
It is a case of Xhosa culture meeting beach culture, with African Mamas selling beads and other crafts under shady trees near the lagoon, while whales and dolphins cavort in the Indian ocean. And the perfect sets crashing onto a mile-long stretch of unspoilt beach are not too shabby, either.
The nearby Double Mouth and Cape Morgan Nature Reserves abound with natural beauty and because five different biomes meet here, birding is very rewarding. Morgan Bay rocks right through the year with its sublime subtropical climate, though it can get a bit muggy in summer.
