The town of Montagu offers visitors a range of scenic short walks and tougher hiking trails throughout the Langeberg Mountain Range. If you love the outdoors and being surrounded by nature, pack your hiking boots and plenty of water when you trip to Montagu for a fun outdoor adventure.

The Bloupunt trail is 16 km long and follows a route to the summit of Bloupunt. Once at the top, you’ll have splendid views of Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor, Montagu and Robertson. There are fresh water points along the trail where you can stop to refresh and take in the beautiful landscape. The route down from the summit offers access to a few small waterfalls, great for cool-down swim.

The Cogmanskloof trail is a 4-6 hour hike, perfect for avid hikers looking to test their mountaineering skills. This is an overnight trail, ideal for a weekend trip. The Cogmans summit offers a pristine view of the surrounding area’s ravines and mountains. Rock formations and wildflowers are dotted along the route, so look out for aloes, proteas and ericas.

There are also a few shorter walks for nature lovers who want to bask in nature rather than work on their fitness. Badskloof trail is 2.2 km that connects the hot springs with Eyssenhuis/Ou Meul at Joubertpark. Birders can enjoy the rich birdlife in the area, and spot the black eagle if they are lucky. Loverswalk follows a route along the Keisie River banks, and is only 500 m in distance. The views of Kanonkop mountain are spectacular from here.
