Meyer von Wielligh is recognised globally for its beautiful furniture designs and incredibly well-crafted pieces. Meyer von Wielligh has released several collections inspired by various natural influences from the history of a tree to the beautiful landscapes across the continent.
Each piece serves to enhance your space through bold design and elegant materials that have been uniquely customized for each of the collections. Meyer von Wielligh has six main collections which are the Nama Range, Umthi Range, Instomi Range, Leaf Range, Mud Range and the Melike Range.
The beauty of the Namibian landscape served to inspire Meyer von Wielligh’s Nama Range. It is also where one of the co-founders, Abrie von Wielligh grew up. Namibia is home to some of the tallest sand dunes and sceneries stretching far and wide, the simple and uncomplicated design of the Nama Range echoes the open fluidity of Namibia’s landscapes.
The Umthi Range, named after the isiXhosa word for tree, celebrates the natural curves and bends of tree branches. Each piece in the range is tailored made by the natural characteristics of the wood used to then dictate the design of each piece.
‘Instomi’ translates to ‘stories’ in isiXhosa and the Instomi Range tells the story of the oak tree from which it’s made and the pith of the oak tree is central to the silhouette of each design piece in the range. The Leaf Range is inspired by the full forests and lush landscape of South Africa’s Garden Route and each piece in the range nods to the organic lines found in nature.
Another range inspired by Namibia is the Mud Range which draws its earthy yet contemporary feel from the asymmetrical patterns of cracked earth found on the dry riverbeds of Sossusvlei, Namibia.
This range plays with the complementary dynamic of metal and timber. The final range is the Melike Range which is named after Abrie’s daughter. This range is defined by comfort and simplicity and showcases a traditional approach to design and craftsmanship.
