Hluleka Nature Reserve is a little gem of a spot, situated within the Wild Coast region of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The reserve is a combination of a 772 ha farm known as Old Strachan’s Grant Farm, a strip of Wild Coastline, and the splendid forest reserves of Congwane Mtombo and Ndabeni Hluleka.
This is very much the heartland of the Xhosa people, brimming with rolling hills, dramatic sea cliffs, rural villages and a tempestuous shoreline, and the scenery is sure to leave you breathless.
Even more interesting than the diverse fauna and flora are the people who live here. The amaXhosa are made up of distinct subgroups, including the Thembu, Mpondo, Mpondomise, Bomvana and Mfengu groups, each with their own customs and traditions.
