On the Primitive Trail in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, you'll spot wildlife such as Blue wildebeest.

The Hluhluwe area offers numerous fun walking and hiking trails that suit both beginner and expert walkers. The Primitive Trail is a perfect combination of challenge and excitement as you backpack through Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.

The trail takes around three to four nights to complete, and allows hikers to get in touch with nature and experience the Big 5 and other wildlife up close. You’ll need to carry your own gear around, but the trail is well worth it for the fantastic outdoor experience.

At Emdoneni Lodge, visitors have the opportunity to complete various guided walking tours. The tour is education-based, and walkers will learn more about the KwaZulu-Natal region’s geology, wildlife and plant-life. The relaxing walk includes up-close interactions with wildlife such as zebra and antelope as well as Nyala, Wildebeest and the shy red and grey duiker. Abundant birdlife can also be seen in the vleilands and the sand forest trees.

Zulu Croc Reptile Park

This reptile park is more than just a chance to see crocodiles - it’s an educational adventure aimed at providing visitors with as much fascinating knowledge about South Africa’s reptiles as possible. The reptile park has trained reptile experts that work with crocodiles and snakes, who’ll offer insight into the crocodile’s feeding habits, how snake venom works and how an iguana moves.

There are multiple interactions to choose from, like holding or feeding an iguana, wrap up with a constrictor snake or watch as a Nile crocodile launches itself from the water to feed. The moist tropical savannah bushveld of the area makes it a natural habitat for various reptile species, and the park takes their conservation under great consideration.
