Garden Route

A Piece of Eden

The Garden Route is a great way to explore the Cape Coastal region of South Africa. You can either embark on a self drive route, lingering longer at points of interest that tickle your fancy, or plan a guided trip with an itinerary, stopping here and there as you slowly meander along. Just as long as you savour the sights of pure unadulterated beauty.

The definition of the Garden Route shrinks or expands on each webpage you look at. However, the reality is, as you leave the city of Cape Town or Port Elizabeth you enter a landscape that is both beautiful and varied. You enter a piece of Eden with views of mountains, the Indian Ocean, forests, friendly small towns and endless activities to sample.

The Garden Route caters to many interests, from nature and bird watching to scoffing down oysters and sampling some cold craft beers.

Outdoor activities like scuba diving, bungee jumping, surfing and to everything in between is quite popular. Your visits along the way to the Garden Route should include at least several of these towns, to get the best of your trip.

Mossel Bay is great for an adrenaline burst as you go great white shark cage diving. George has a nice spot for golf, and Wilderness provides ample bird watching. Sedgefield has tranquil lakes and Knysna is known for its funky vibe and fantastic festivals. Brenton on Sea offers seaside fun, while Plettenberg Bay is renowned for its opulent holiday homes, beaches and whales.

Keurbooms lagoon is good for fishing and exploring and Natures Valley has terrific hikes. Tsitsikamma will ensure a surge of adrenaline as you bungee, swing through the forest on a canopy tour or float down Storms River on an inner tube.
