The lagoon with its yacht club and public slipway has traditionally made Fisherhaven more of a holiday destination, however, more and more young families and retirees are moving into the area to enjoy a more peaceful life. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities on the lagoon including water skiing, kiteboarding, power boating, wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing and fishing.

The area is abundant in indigenous vegetation, birdlife and a well known group of wild horses that move around the area. The horses are believed to be the only group of wild horses in a wetland habitat in South Africa.
