Stretching from the port of Durban to eZimbokodweni is the hub of industry in Durban and KwaZulu-Natal, known as the South Durban Basin. Here you will find two petrochemical refineries, a paper mill, motor manufacturers and about 5 000 businesses.
The port of Durban operates 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. It has a modern multi-purpose terminal, which handles bulk and container cargoes. It has South Africa's largest import and export facility for the motor industry. The Maydon Wharf terminal handles a variety of niche commodities for example salt, fertilisers, steel and forest products.
There is a passenger terminal for cruise ships, which operate from November and May. There is also a yachting marina that serves both the Point Yacht Club and the Royal Natal Yacht Club.
