Dullstroom - Emnothweni

Dullstroom, also known as Emnothweni, dates back to 1880 when Dutch Settlers (aided by Wolterus Dull) established a small village and named it Dull’s Stroom. Today, this quaint town draws the weekend crowds with an exhilarating mix of anything from log fire and red wine winter nights to fresh air mountain hikes. Dullstroom has some of the best fly-fishing on offer in South Africa.

The scenic Mpumalanga Highlands is a veritable paradise, where rolling hills meet emerald forests in a shimmer of fresh-water lakes and tumbling streams. Meander upon these grassland plains and through the fragrant plantations for long enough, and you are sure to fall head over soul in love with this natural nirvana.

Many laid-back dorps languish throughout the region, but the mist-shrouded town of Dullstroom – perched at more than 2000 m above sea level – should definitely be near the top of your itinerary. Sprawled beneath majestic oaks, beech and cherry trees, Dullstroom epitomises the perfect romantic getaway, but with a healthy dollop of dirt and adventure on the side.

Did You Know? Dullstroom not only boasts the most comprehensive collection of whiskeys, but also the largest collection of clocks in the southern hemisphere.
