Daniëlskuil lies at the foot of the Kuruman Hills, 90 kilometres south of Kuruman, in the Northern Cape province South Africa.
The name Daniel’s Den was first found in documents by the missionary Campbell in 1820. According to tradition, the name of the town is derived from a natural pit, named “kuil” in Afrikaans, in the dolomite structure.
In the former days, perpetrators were imprisoned under awful conditions in this pit. As a result of this, a link was made with the biblical figure of Daniël, who ended up in a pit with lions, hence the name Daniëlskuil.
Daniëlskuil is an ideal destination for visitors wanting to break away from city life and relax in a beautiful remote area.
