Cathcart

Cathcart is a small town set at the foothills of the Amathole Mountains (also spelt Amatole or Amatola) in the Eastern Cape province. The surrounding area of Cathcart is quiet and serene, disrupted only by the sounds of cattle grazing in the open fields. The town is en route to popular Queenstown, which makes it an easy stopover for holidaymakers interested in the hidden charm such a small town would present.

Experience the peaceful town of Cathcart in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Cathcart was named after Sir George Cathcart, who was the governor of the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope for a year in 1852. It is said that he is not fondly remembered; his somewhat abortive second major European-led invasion of the Sotho kingdom, was doomed due to his supreme arrogance when he came up against a formidable force in the form of Moshoeshoe and his men.

For those wanting to experience the peaceful hills and pristine natural environment of the Eastern Cape, should look no further than Cathcart, as it is equipped with modern amenities, historic and cultural significance and friendly, laid-back locals.
