Blouberg Nature Reserve in the Limpopo Province, covers more than 9 000 ha, known for its rich diversity of bushveld, woodland and riverine flora and fauna. The reserve lies at the eastern foothills of the Blouberg Mountains, surrounded by small villages and farmlands.
Visitors to Blouberg Nature Reserve can expect to see splendid views of dry bushveld savannah, giant baobabs and mashatu trees. Animals found in the reserve include Cape buffalo, giraffe, eland, waterbuck, gemsbok, zebra, kudu, klipspringer, steenbok, duiker, warthog and bushpig.
Predators recorded in Blouberg Nature Reserve are leopard, cheetah, caracal, brown and spotted hyena, as well as numerous small mammals like civet, red spotted genet and African wildcat.
Over 225 species of birds call the reserve home, and there are numerous birding trails that allow visitors to spot Verreaux’s eagle-owl, Brown snake-eagle, Tawny eagle and a series of owls. The Blouberg Nature Reserve also runs the Blouberg Conservation Project, aimed at promoting the endangered Cape vulture and other vulture species through community involvement.
