Ardmore Design is known globally for its incredibly well-crafted luxury lifestyle products, including fabrics, furnishings, and design objects.
Ardmore Design has released several collections inspired by various creative influences across the continent. Ardmore Ceramic Art has also served to influence some of Ardmore Design’s iconic patterns.
Ardmore Design products serve to ‘colour your world’ through bold design, playful prints and elegant fabrics that have been uniquely customized throughout each of the collections. The company has four main ranges which are the Wonderboy Collection, Qalakabusha Collection, the Zambezi Collection and the Sabie Collection.
The Wonderboy Collection celebrates the evocative designs of Ardmore artist, Wonderboy Nxumalo, who joined Ardmore in 1994 and incorporated anecdotes, short stories and messages into his work, which reflected the story of his life living with HIV/AIDS.
Wonderboy’s designs express these messages through the metaphor of the monkey. Wonderboy inspired patterned linen chairs, linen cushion covers and fabric form part of this excellent collection. A percentage from the sales of Wonderboy fabrics goes to his mother and a KwaZulu-Natal Aids orphanage.
‘Qalakabusha’, the Zulu word for ‘new beginnings’, is the name given to Ardmore Design’s first collection. The range is inspired by the bold imagery of Ardmore’s world famous ceramics. Fabrics, cushions, ottomans, tablecloths, placemats, napkins and handbags that are decorated with playful monkeys, jungle-like plants, chirping birds and cunning crocodiles fill this collection bold African-inspired design.
Inspired by the mighty Zambezi River that breathes life into the wilderness surrounding it, the Zambezi collection collection features unique pieces of furniture covered in top quality materials that celebrate motifs that portray tales and elements of life around the Zambezi. All designs unique to Ardmore are displayed on carefully selected distinctive linen, fine silk and cotton velvet, making every piece in this range a work of art.
Ardmore’s most recent range is the Sabie Collection which was inspired by Fée Halsted’s visit to the Kruger National Park, home to the great Sabie River with its rich fauna and flora.
The area is a never ending tapestry of a variety of birds, fish and camouflaged beasts. The light, sound, movement and colour which shift and change served to inspire this collection and the fabrics which are decorated with earnest and naive renderings of the Sabie region.
