Addo Elephant National Park, Eastern Cape

Trails

Beautiful guided bush walks, allow you to explore the rugged Zuurberg Mountains. The trails wind down to the valley floor and through the thick indigenous bush, offering glimpses of duiker, kudu, warthog and eland, and stunning views as you follow the switchbacks back up. 

The annual Addo Elephant Trail Run, the first triple ultra distance trail event in South Africa, with a choice of 100 mile, 76 km and 44 km route, ends at the hotel and should be on all runners’ bucket lists. For the less experienced there is also a 5 km fun run, which begins and finishes at Zuurberg Mountain Village.

Horse Riding

Explore the spekboom domain of Africa’s southernmost elephant herd or the rugged Zuurberg Mountains at a trot! Opt for a one, three or five hour horse trail. Ideal for both experienced and novice riders.

Elephant Encounters

If you’ve always wanted to walk with elephants, here is your chance. Addo Elephant Encounters operate only 30 minutes from the hotel, and you will have the opportunity to walk with these gentle giants while they graze in the indigenous Eastern Cape bush.

4X4 Trail

Test your 4x4 skills on the Wilderness Trail, a full-day 4x4 trail through the remote areas of the Addo Elephant National Park. This trail offers spectacular ‘untouched’ scenery as you traverse the park’s five biomes. You can also go for a guided game drive into the park if you don’t feel like doing the driving yourself.
