Finches

The name finch is colloquially given to a lot of birds such as twinspots, firefinches and waxbills. There are four species of finch that occur locally, in various Genera, the cut-throat, the scaly-feathered, red-headed and the cuckoo finch.

The red-headed and the cut-throat finches have been recorded as a hybridising in areas where their ranges overlap.

All finches are omnivores, being both granivorous and insectivorous, with food being procured on the ground.
