Shem Compion’s photographic interests range from wildlife and action to landscapes, people, reportage and sports photography. Shem has always been interested in the African bush. This was a natural progression for someone who was raised on a bushveld farm beyond Pretoria. Shem went on to obtain a National Diploma in Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management.
When, in the year 2000, Shem picked up a SLR camera for the first time, he was intrigued by the level of control he could exert on an image. An extensive photographic safari with Andre Cloete ensued, with the result that Shem settled into his chosen career as a wildlife photographer.
Shem has since 2000 mainly worked overseas, for the most part in the United Kingdom, where he has managed the logistics of a production company while concurrently working as a photographer.
His career has taken him across the globe both on a commercial and freelance basis. Aside from South Africa and the United Kingdom, places where he has applied his lens include Switzerland, France, Scotland and Austria. Shem is now at the helm of C4 Images and Safaris cc.
