Sabie is a tranquil town at the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains, in the province of Mpumalanga. Sabie’s humble beginnings started in 1895, when gold was discovered and a gold rush quickly followed.
Being in the centre of one of the largest man-made forests in the world, the town’s main industry now is based around plantations, followed closely by tourism. Sabie is on the Panorama Route, a tourist route that covers some of the major tourist attractions in the area, not limited to God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes.
Local activities include hiking, hot air ballooning, white water rafting and trout fishing. Sabie is well known for the abundant waterfalls that are in the area, being: Mac Mac Falls, Lone Creek Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Forest Falls and the Sabie River Falls. Sabie is a scenic 4-hour drive from Johannesburg and around 1 hour to the Kruger National Park, offering nature right on your doorstep.
