A dorp at the end of a road can either be a one-horse town, or an incredibly special destination. McGregor is without a doubt the latter, and is a truly unique and therapeutic escape for anyone in search of some soul space. The village is both eccentric and alternative, with an eclectic mix of eco-warriors, alternative healers, artistic souls and down-at-heel rural luddites populating the tranquil country lanes.

Situated approximately two hours from Cape Town and just 20 km down the drag from Robertson off Route 62, McGregor retains much of its 19th century architectural integrity, with many a quaint white-washed cottage and rambling gardens on large plots. The village epitomises that feel of being far from the madding crowds, allowing you to unwind within a peaceful environment.

The alternative community considers the dorp a sacred site as it is one of only a few global sites located directly on the ley lines, where natural energies converge to feed the creative and healing abilities of the many interesting characters residing here. Summers are generally balmy, while snow dusts the surrounding peaks in winter.

McGregor was originally called Lady Grey, but was renamed in 1905 in honour of the long-serving local minister, the Rev. Andrew McGregor.
