Lydenburg

The town’s new (friendlier) official name is Mashishing, meaning ‘place of long, green grass’. Check out the Lydenburg Museum for their fascinating exhibit of the mysterious Lydenburg Heads - strange terracotta masks that were created over 1000 years ago by a little-known African iron-age culture, the original heads are at the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town.
