Beaches Of South Africa
Coast to Coast

Wow! From the West Coast's wild, deserted, sun-bleached stretches of snow-white sand to the subtropical, coral-fringed, forest-backed beaches of Maputaland, there is a beach for every reason when on a South African holiday.

The beaches of South Africa are much more than a haven for sun-worshippers and surfers. There's so much to see and do along our dramatic coastlines, including a range of wonderful multi-day coastal hikes. Even near the cities of Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, there are long stretches of unspoiled coastline - and, of course, fun urban beaches with every conceivable convenience and novelty.

In Cape Town, try Clifton for the fashionable set; Sandy Bay, our unofficial nudist beach, for the wouldn't-wear-fashion-anyhow set; and Long Beach for the walking. Boulders offer the very best swimming and a possible sub-aqua visit by a curious penguin as a bonus. In Cape Town, visitors could watch the sunrise over False Bay, and watch it set over the broad expanse of the Atlantic on the same day. And again the next day. What a life!

In Port Elizabeth, Hobie Beach is good for buzz and burger bars, while Sardinia Bay offers miles of virtually deserted snow-white sand. Kings Beach is also a favourite, and Humewood Beach is a frequent Blue Flag winner. There's also a nearby snake park and dolphins at play in the oceanarium.

East London's beaches tend to be well populated, but only a few kilometres from town there are some practically deserted ones. Orient Beach has good swimming, and the black rocks of Eastern Beach are great for photos and exploration. Or you could take long walks down Nahoon Beach and Gonubie Beach on your South African holiday.

And the whole city of Durban is really just a life support system for the beach. So, get off the couch and explore the wealth of magnificent options available along our shores!
