Agricultural Research Council

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) has a rich history of using research and innovation to support and improve the South African agricultural sector.

When it developed out of the Department of Agriculture’s research component in 1992, the parastatal primarily focussed on support to the commercial agricultural sector. By 1995, however, its mandate was expanded to also include the resource-poor sector, with the aim of contributing to poverty alleviation and rural and human resource development.
