Pennington is a small coastal town on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It forms part of a large sugarcane and dairy industry, and is a favourite spot for holidaymakers who are looking for the perfect getaway. The village is named after an English family who started farming in the area in the late 19th century.
Sir Frank Reynolds, an English sugar baron, helped to develop the seaside village for South African prime ministers to show his admiration for the first premier of SA, General Louis Botha. The town is built on a hillside overlooking the Indian Ocean, and activities in the area include a visit to Umdoni Park (also established by Reynolds), and various outdoor adventures such as hiking and bird watching.
