Mokopane, previously known as Potgietersrus, is situated in the Limpopo Province, just two hours from Gauteng. It is the ideal stopover for travellers en route to Botswana, Zimbabwe and the Kruger National Park. The Mokopane area is one of South Africa's richest agricultural areas producing wheat, tobacco, cotton, beef, maize, peanuts and citrus.

Mokopane has a large concentration of private game reserves, and is one of the fastest-growing ecotourism areas in the country. The Marakele National Park, with its Cape vulture colony, is a leader in the conservation of the black rhino outside of the KwaZulu-Natal parks.
