De Grendel Wines

De Grendel was named one of South Africa's Top 100 Most Highly Rated Wines in the Shiraz category (2019). Their Shiraz has been a consistent top performer, winning numerous awards through the years.

De Grendel Shiraz is a deep purple color with aromas of violet, pepper and buchu, making it a unique and smooth wine with lots of character. It is best paired with pork neck, traditional glazed gammon and venison cuts during the colder winter months.

Their flagship collection ‘Amandelboord’ pays homage to the 2nd Baronet Sir De Villiers Graaff and his fond memories of horse riding through the Almond Orchard with his grandfather. As Pinotage was De Villiers Graaff’s favourite cultivar, cellarmaster Hopkins was all too happy to create an elegantly balanced and perfumed wine that celebrates the unique terroir of De Grendel, showcasing the South African cultivar to the best of his ability.

The ‘Op die Berg’ collection is a beautiful laud to the fertile vineyards of the wine estate’s terroir in Ceres; it is a marvellous vintage range that showcases the farm’s noble and oldest cultivars, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Both have won numerous accolades, such as the prestigious 2018 African Cellar Suppliers Pinot Noir Trophy. Both wines continue to be favourites in the wine community.

Furthermore, De Grendel is mother to a classic Rosé, a flagship Bordeaux Blend called Rubaiyat, a MCC Brut with notes of crisp apple and top-quality reds like Merlot and Shiraz.

De Grendel Wines include an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, which the Durbanville wine region is well suited to producing.
